When to consult an ophthalmologist

Several ophthalmological signs should justify an emergency appointment. If you have red eye, pain in the eye, if you experience a sudden or rapidly progressive loss of vision, if you see double, if you have suffered a trauma: blow, chemical splash or foreign body in the eye . And at the slightest sign when you only have one good eye. In this case, contact the firm as soon as possible. Our team is trained to ask you the right questions to determine the degree of urgency. What happens during a consultation

Our team is at your service to welcome you in the best conditions of comfort and safety. Our secretary will welcome you for the administrative part at first. Then our orthoptist will carry out the pre-consultation. This consists of testing your vision, taking measurements related to your refraction and your glasses as well as measuring your eye pressure. If the measurements justify it, she will carry out the necessary additional examinations to facilitate the diagnosis of an eye disease which will be made by your ophthalmologist. You will then be received by Doctor Bela, FMH ophthalmologist who will listen and then examine you in order to establish a diagnosis. She will give you your glasses prescription and if necessary will explain the treatment to be implemented in case of ophthalmological disease or surgery to be scheduled. The doctor is at your disposal to answer all your questions during the consultation.

What is the role of an ophthalmologist

An ophthalmologist is a doctor who specializes in the health of your eyes. He uses his knowledge to ensure the health of your eyes. He will be able to give you the prescriptions for glasses appropriate to your vision. But also and above all detecting, monitoring and treating ophthalmological diseases. He will also be authorized to perform surgery if necessary, for example a cataract operation to allow you to restore your vision or treat a disease of the cornea, retina or glaucoma.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an ophthalmologist

None. These are two terms for the same person. The ophthalmologist and the ophthalmologist are both FMH doctors specialized in ophthalmology. They are therefore empowered to take care of the health of your eyes and your vision.

How much does a consultation with the ophthalmologist cost?

Medical pricing, also called Tarmed, is set by the confederation with the help of the FMH and Swissmedic. This Tarmed defines a number of points according to the act performed in consultation and the time spent with each patient. These points have a slightly variable tariff value according to the cantons but each technical act is codified with the same number of points whatever the canton. On average, the consultation with an ophthalmologist in Geneva is between 100 and 200 francs. When additional examinations are necessary, this rate can be significantly higher.
