The center is located chemin de Beau-Soleil 12, next to the Clinique Générale Beaulieu which allows us to collaborate closely with other doctors affiliated with the network in order to benefit from the radiology infrastructure, multi-disciplinary care if necessary and easy access to the operating room for rapid and effective treatment of your eye pathologies.

Doctor Bela is ophthalmologist FMH, qualified in Switzerland. She is also trained in ophthalmic surgery for cataract and in oculoplastic surgery for eyelid, tear duct and orbit problems.

General ophthalmology

General ophthalmology includes consultations at the ophthalmology office for the ophthalmological follow-up of adults and children.

Doctor Bela’s ophthalmology center, located in Geneva, is equipped with the entire medical technical platform for vision tests, eye examinations, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

The general assessment includes: a refraction test, measurements of visual acuity to determine the prescription of glasses or contact lenses, measurement of corneal thickness and measurement of eye pressure.

If necessary, this examination is supplemented by an assessment of color vision, a pupil reaction test, and a coordination test. Finally, additional examinations may be necessary if a problem is detected by these general examinations: OCT, corneal topography, eye biometry for cataract assessment, visual field strong> to detect a problem on the optic nerve such as glaucoma, photos of the retina, pupil dilation, retinal angiography.

Caractar is linked to a clouding of the lens in the eye called the crystalline lens.

This lens allows you to adjust the sharpness of your distance and near vision throughout your life with or without glasses. Around the age of 60, a progressive opacification of the lens occurs.

This is called cataract. When you have cataracts your vision may be impaired. The first signs of cataract appearance before the loss of vision appear as follows:

  • A loss of contrast requiring more light to read
  • Dazzle in front of light sources making night driving difficult
  • A change in color vision

Then vision becomes blurred and can no longer be improved by glasses. An intervention is then necessary.

Cataract surgery is the only treatment to improve vision.

This operation consists of replacing the cataract with an artificial lens placed in the eye. All these surgeries are performed in an operating theater in Geneva specializing in ophthalmology.

Before surgery, local anesthesia is administered in the form of eye drops. A small incision is made in the cornea manually or by laser. A special ultrasound probe is used to fragment and aspirate the clouded lens. An intraocular implant (IOL) is then inserted into the eye by the surgeon.

The operation lasts on average 30 minutes and it is painless for the patient.

This surgery is performed in the operating room on an outpatient basis, which means that the patient can go home the same day. Recovery is generally rapid, but the use of eye drops and regular follow-up with the ophthalmologist are essential.

In just one week your vision is restored and a new prescription for glasses can be given to you according to the objectives discussed with the doctor. In some cases a premium multifocal implant is chosen to allow you the greatest possible independence in glasses.

What is ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is a medical specialty dealing with eye health and vision-related disorders. Doctors who specialize in ophthalmology, called ophthalmologists, diagnose and treat diseases related to the eyes. This includes vision disorders like myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism as well as eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy.

Ophthalmology also encompasses specialized fields such as oculoplasty, which focuses on plastic and reconstructive surgery of eye structures such as the eyelids, tear ducts, and orbit. Ophthalmic surgery also includes laser surgery and cataract surgery.

What does an ophthalmologist treat

An ophthalmologist is a doctor who specializes in the health of your eyes. He uses his knowledge to ensure the health of your eyes. He will be able to give you the prescriptions for glasses appropriate to your vision. But also and above all detecting, monitoring and treating ophthalmological diseases. He will also be authorized to perform surgery if necessary, for example a cataract operation to allow you to restore your vision or treat a disease of the cornea, retina or glaucoma.

In ophthalmology what is an oct

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) or "optical coherence tomography" is a non-invasive imaging technique used to visualize the structures of the eye in high resolution.

OCT uses optical interference to generate cross-sectional images of the eye, thus making it possible to visualize the different ocular structures.

This allows ophthalmologists to obtain detailed images of the retina, cornea, optic nerve thickness and other eye structures. OCT is particularly useful in the diagnosis, monitoring and management of many eye conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, corneal disorders.

What is the price of a cs at the ophthalmologist

Medical pricing, also called Tarmed, is set by the confederation with the help of the FMH and Swissmedic. This Tarmed defines a number of points according to the act performed in consultation and the time spent with each patient. These points have a slightly variable tariff value according to the cantons but each technical act is codified with the same number of points whatever the canton.

On average, the consultation with an ophthalmologist in Geneva is between 100 and 200 francs. When additional examinations are necessary, this rate can be significantly higher.

When to consult an ophthalmologist

It is recommended that you visit an ophthalmologist regularly for eye disease screening, even if you do not have eye symptoms. These diseases are all diagnosed in the ophthalmology practice and can lead to treatment in order to cure or prevent the progression of diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, AMD.

You must call the practice in the event of an eye emergency and you will then be seen in consultation by the doctor in the event of the following symptoms: decreased vision, eye pain, eye trauma, eye redness, especially if you wear contact lenses. contact.

How to treat a cataract

Currently the only possible treatment for cataracts is surgery.

Surgery is indicated when there is a loss of vision that cannot be improved by changing glasses.

Cataract surgery is an operation performed by your surgeon under a microscope. During this procedure, the clouded lens is replaced by an implant positioned in your eye. This artificial lens will allow you to regain perfect vision subject to the absence of disease affecting the cornea or the retina which deteriorates vision.

When to go to the eye emergency room

Several ophthalmological signs should justify an emergency appointment. If you have a red eye, pain in the eye, if you experience a sudden or rapidly progressive loss of vision, if you see double, if you have suffered a trauma: blow, chemical projection or foreign body in the eye. And at the slightest sign when you only have one good eye. In this case, contact the firm as soon as possible. Our team is trained to ask you the right questions to determine the degree of urgency. We are at your service to receive you the same day in case of emergency thanks to dedicated consultation slots.
